The Portuguese Governor (head of soldiers), Amaral, was savagely tyrannical in his conduct; making a "horse road" without the San pa gater, he levelled and destroyed all the graves thereabout; from the first he had numbered every chop in Macao with barbarian characters, and had extorted money from them; he also tried to extort money from the different ships and boats, for his use.
